Are You Getting the Best from a Good Night’s Rest?

The way that we sleep not only has a direct impact on the way that we feel during the day, but also on our posture and physical health. Poor and awkward sleeping positions can lead to back, neck, shoulder and other musculoskeletal pains which if left unchecked can worsen over time.  Jackie Leftwich at Waterside Chiropractic believes that many people do not realise the impact of continuing to sleep on an unsupportive mattress or with unsuitable pillows.  Sleeping gives the muscles a chance to rest and so it is imperative that your bed gives your body the support that it needs to wind down and relax properly. We spend on average about 8 hours in bed per day which is a third of the day…so, for most people, a third of their lives are spent in bed!

McTimoney Chiropractic treatment can ensure that the musculoskeletal system of the body is fully aligned and balanced so that when you sleep you can get the most rest and relaxation from your time in bed.  Also make sure that your mattress and pillows are going to give your back, neck and head the support that is needed so that you can get the best from a good night’s sleep. Different sleeping positions can also affect the body’s symmetry and alignment and good positioning whilst sleeping encourages a positive outcome. If you think your bed or sleeping position could be affecting whether you get a comfortable and good night’s rest, then please do contact Jackie Leftwich at Waterside Chiropractic.  Further information about buying a new mattress can also be found in a full guide from the Sleep Council at www.sleepcouncil.com
