Waterside Chiropractic Welcomes BackCare Awareness Week

Waterside Chiropractic welcomes this year’s BackCare Awareness Week which runs from 6th-12th October. This is an annual event organised by the charity, BackCare (www.backcare.org.uk) which aims to promote the awareness of back pain and the wide-ranging issues surrounding it, including prevention and treatment. BackCare Awareness Week puts the spotlight on the prevention of back and neck pain and the emphasis on good posture and as stress free a living as possible to help maintain a healthy pain-free back and body.

This year the focus is on office workers with a campaign called ‘Back in the Office’ (very clever!) as approx 7.6 million working days are lost each year due to work-related back pain and other musculoskeletal disorders according to a recent NHS study. The BackCare website offers key tips on how to help yourself at work and arrange your workspace so as to minimise the risk of work-related back and neck pain.

The campaign will focus on key tips including –

  • Stand, sit and move at your desk
  • Stretch your back at your desk at least every half hour
  • Set your workstation correctly
  • Ergonomic furniture, just ‘hype’ or a necessity?
  • Use headsets and stop straining those neck muscles!
  • Take regular breaks, especially if you work long hours
  • Employers guidelines

McTimoney Chiropractic such as that used by Waterside Chiropractic can also really help in the prevention and treatment of back, neck and musculoskeletal pain. There is also a free advice leaflet on back care tips for office or desk workers, contact Jackie Leftwich at Waterside Chiropractic on 07738 110570 to get yours or to discuss how you could benefit from chiropractic treatment.
